France earned their fourth Women’s under-19 EURO title in rain-interrupted final yesterday evening by beating Spain 2-1.
Both sides had to endure shocking conditions throughout the match, the impending thunderstorm keeping both sides in their changing rooms for 2hrs at halftime before play could resume.
No loss shocking was the last gasp miss via Spain’s Nahikari Garcíaat.
With the French 2-1 to the good with seconds remaining, courtesy of goals from Grace Geyoro and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Spain’s captain Nahikari Garcíaat had the goal at her mercy as well as the chance to potentially save her side from inevitable defeat, only to somehow scoop the ball over the bar with the keeper helpless.
Not only that, Garcíaat missed a penalty earlier on in the tie.
