West Ham owner David Sullivan’s new Krays film has some rather fishy reviews on IMDB

Great spot by the The Guardian’s Ed Aarons here.

Being the absolute cockney icon we’re sure he perceives himself to be, West Ham co owner David Sullivan has part financed ‘The Rise of the Krays’, which, as quoted by IMDB, ‘Follows the early years of two unknown 18 year old amateur boxers who quickly fought their way to becoming the most feared and respected villains in all of London.’

Sullivan himself commented on the project back in December: “I can go back to The Long Good Friday, Gangster No.1 and my favourite, Get Carter. Well this movie is in that mould and I hope every bit as good.

“Ronnie and Reggie are East End legends, but we wanted to tell the real story. Not just the myths. It’s a challenge, but it’s an exciting challenge.

“It’s a full-length feature film. Eight-week shoot, £3million budget and comes out in May. It is a lot of money, but we haven’t spent a fortune on artists.

“We’ve got two young guys, Simon Cotton and Kevin Leslie, to play Ronnie and Reggie, and they are just sensational.

“My Dad, every lunchtime, used to drink with the Krays’ mum. I’ve got my own experience as well.

Of course, the film may also be referred to as ‘that other Krays movie’ with the big budget Tom Hardy project ‘Legend’ about to hit cinema’s next month. Comparing the two trailers on Youtube, we can tell that one of them looks absolute garbage.

Not wanting his project to be swallowed hole by a much superior interpretation of the Kray’s story, it seems someone has got rather creative on IMDB’s reviews section.

With the movie currently holding a stonking 7.6 rating, rather high for a film not getting a cinema release, on closer inspection we can see the comments section is filled with users with names such as ‘davidsullivansoffice’ and davesullivan-01061.

A PR ploy? or just someone having a laugh at the films expense, we can’t possible decide which.
