Watch: Frank Lampard nets New York City’s first ever hat-trick in 5-1 rout

Originally joining the club in 2014, only to be shipped back out on loan to parent club Manchester City, it’s fair to say that Frank Lampard’s introduction to New York City fans has been somewhat rocky.

After a maiden season allowing him time to well and truly ‘feel things out’ Stateside, it seems Frank Lampard is finally getting the hang of this soccer malarkey.

With his team flying high at the top of MLS’ Eastern division under the stewardship of Patrick Viera, the former Chelsea captain made history by becoming the first player to net a hat-trick for the newly formed New York club, all during a 5-1 mauling of Colorado Rapids.

Lamps scored from close range on 28 minutes, before adding efforts in the 80th and 84th, the latter a penalty kick following two trademark goals.

Reflecting on his record breaking feat, Lampard would utter post match:

“Really happy, I didn’t realize that. I know is very short history but it’s a great accolade for me as a person. I’m very happy and when I’m playing well, feeling good, obviously I can score goals, I’ve manage to do since I’ve been fit. To the three goals personally feel great but for the team more importantly, twice now in recent weeks we lost a game and come straight back the next week and won. And that’s what team who wants to stay on top of the table must do.”

Here’s footage of the man in action.
