Whilst little matters in these fast football times other than your clubs current league standing, it can only be considered churlish to consign Leicester City’s achievements last season to the black hole of football history.

Such is the absurdity of Ranieri’s side lifting the Premier League trophy, it’s only fair that those visiting the city of Leicester be reminded of their greatest ever season by every single bystander constantly until the end of time.
Even in the age of the Opta savvy fan, it still remains a mystery as to what Claudio Ranieri did to energise his squad of mid table meddlers into such a frightening Premier League force.
Either way, the affable Italian has etched his his name into footballing folklore. He may not have the shear number of trophies that such luminaries as Guardiola and Mourinho boast, still, who out of the worlds ‘uber’ managers could replicate the former Roma’s managers achievements?
Saying that.
The Foxes are this season sinking like a stone.
Yes they have the welcome distraction of Champions League knockout football (did we mention what an insane achievement that was), still, Championship football is a likely destination if they’re abhorrent slump isn’t halted.
This weeks 3-0 defeat to Southampton left the reigning champions 5 points above the relegation zone. Perhaps even more worrying was the ease that Claude Puel’s side nullified the frantic pace and guile of Leicester’s forward line.
The clubs beleaguered manager refused to hang his players out to dry, turning the focus on his own tactical choices as his side looked lost in a diamond midfield.
A smart move given the teams lack of confidence coming into the ‘business end of the season’.
Whilst Ranieri’s squad is more than capable of picking up form to ensure a slice of that ginormous £5.5 billion TV money, we have one burning question for Leicester fans everywhere.
Would you have taken the Premier League crown last season knowing full well you would be relegated the next?
Championship football will irk the portions of fair weather modern football fans like no one else, however those accustomed to the freezing nights at Filbert Street watching Steve Claridge fail to pull his socks over his shin pads will no doubt take such a hit with gleeful ease – continuing to pray at the mantle of their Italian manager regardless.
Saying that, IF the side side do sink like a stone, who’s to say Ranieri is the man to turn it around?
Much of the title winning side will be depleted, with such shining lights as Mahrez and Vardy being snapped up at cut rates compared to their values a year prior. Realists will say that Leicester’s City will NEVER win a Premier League title again, and that now’s the time to batten down hatches and ensure the Foxes are playing the likes of Aguero, Rooney and Özil every week.
With the side gutted and financial security on the agenda of the teams owners, Leicester’s fairy tale will well and truly be a distance memory with no legacy to be seen.
Or.
*sigh*
They thank Ranieri for his accomplishments and bring in a ‘relegation expert’ in order to stop the rot.
……Yup, we’ve also been sick in our mouths.
