Various sources report Manchester United lining up £25million move for former player

After going through financial hell and high water to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus this summer, it seems Manchester United are set to reach into their vastly deep pockets in order to sign yet another club alumni.

Burnley defender Michael Keane has been busy gaining all sorts of plaudits for some solid defensive displays, not least his former side who just two years ago decided to let him go after failing to make the first team grade.

The Stockport born centre half had been passed around such clubs as Leicester City, Blackburn and Derby County since 2011, all before settling on loan with the Potters, foe which he eventually gained a permanent deal.

Sixty seven appearances later, Keane is now sitting on the fringes of the England national side after being called up by current caretaker Gareth Southgate. A move largely expedited by the possibility of losing him after the defender represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

Whilst current league champions Leicester City were unsuccessful in nabbing the players signature in the summer, it’s believed the fact that Keane is still a die-hard United fan will make a deal very likely, especially with the promise of first team football under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho.

A hefty transfer fee of £25m has been banded around various news sources, with an offer expected this coming January window.
