Trinidad’s absurd Gold Cup final group match with Mexico ends 4-4 after last minute heroics

After a drab first half, the last 45 minutes of the CONCACAF Gold Cup final group match between Trinidad and Mexico proved to be a real stonker.

With both teams on the verge of group qualification, Mexico broke into a 2-0 lead courtesy of former Gunner Carlos Vela, before the Soca Warriors struck back with three goals in quick succession.

Suffering from butter fingers as severely as their hosts, Trinidad conceded two goals in the 88th and 89th minute to bring the match to 4-3 in the Mexicans favour.

With their opponents needing to hang on for merely seconds, a 92nd minute corner from Joevin Jones, battling against random debris thrown from opposition fans, found the head of Yohance Marshall who powered the ball home.

Cue some mild celebrations.

The win means Trinidad face Panama in the quarter finals whilst Mexico face the altogether more sterner test of 2014 World Cup’s surprise package Costa Rica.
