Tottenham v Manchester United match preview: Champions League chasers vying to keep pace with City

Spurs welcome host Manchester United at Wembley this Wednesday, an encounter that promises to reshape the team standing on the table with Liverpool just two points ahead with a game to spare and Chelsea looking on intently.

The unstoppable Kane continued his fine goal-scoring form for Spurs during their 1-1 draw against Southampton. Indeed, the United defence line should be wary of his exploits and the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are up for a difficult time marking the talisman.

United, whilst still looking up at Man City a massive 12 points ahead of them, undeniably have a deadly team, and will need to build a massive head of steam if they are to turn around the gigantic points difference ala their exploits during the 1996/97 season. Those willing to take a punt on the fixture will do well to refer to these Expert Football Predictions. United are equipped with the acquisition of star striker, Alexis Sanchez and he just might be what they need to bring a new life to the attacking forward. The striker, having joined from Arsenal in a deal that saw Mhikirtiryan moved the opposite direction, will be ready for his first Premier League appearance in a Red Devil’s jersey. He would be a good outlet for the likes of Pogba, Anthony Martial and Lukaku.

Jose Mourinho’s men will be keen to maintain their position. They are currently sitting second with 53 points from 24 matches. Chelsea is behind threatening to close up if they should slip in this encounter. However, a draw will be enough for Man Utd to maintain their lead over Chelsea with one point.

Injury News
In attack, Kane is fit for Spurs. United will be keeping all eyes on him as the highest goal scorer in Europe this season and the main man for Spur. He has scored in their last meetings and has been a consistent goal scorer even in big matches. Mauricio Pochettino welcomes back Eriksen, who returns after he missed out their last fixture due to sickness, and Dele Alli. Eriksen has been a key figure in the Premiership this season providing assists for Alli and Kane.

Mourinho very nearly has a full squad to play with. Luke Shaw is fit and will fill the space perfectly on the left side of defence. Rojo is available to pair either of Smalling or Jones at the centre of the defence. Eric Baily and Ibrahimovic are the only absentees due to injuries.

Spurs, on the other end, has a squad of fit stars and some injuries to deal with. Danny Rose is still out with an injury and Toby Anderwield is still recovering from his long injury. Miyun Son, despite his scintillating performance against Burnley some weeks ago might start from the bench. Hugo Lloris and Eriksen will return after missing out the last encounter with sickness.

A day for Alexis Sanchez to impress, he would bring the quality the United attack needs over these days, especially with Romelu Lukaku not in his best form in this past weeks. The Belgian striker has been quiet at scoring for some weeks.

Prediction
The clash is tight with Spurs having much to lose in terms of a top four ambition. Mario Pochettino hope of consecutive Champion League appearance is on the brink. United, however, will want to retain their position and to pile pressure on their rival in the other end of the city of Manchester.

It could all be very cagey, but we see United edging this one by a goal or two. Their wealth of arsenals will prove too much for a Spurs team who have struggled against top clubs this season.
