Germany overcame a fiercely organised Italy side on Saturday evening to book their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
An entertaining 90 minutes saw goals from Mesut Ozil and Leonardo Bonucci square the tie at 1-1. Whilst the ensuing extra time proved a nervy affair, the penalty shootout was an absolute cracker as Germany seemingly tried their darnedest to lose the thing.
Three of Germany’s most dependable stars fluffed their lines, Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and Bastian Schweinsteiger being the guilty party. While for Italy, Graziano Pelle, Bonucci, Simone Zaza and Matteo Darmian all also failed to score.
Jogi Lowe’s side eventually claimed victory 6-5 thanks to Hector squeezing the ball under veteran Buffon. No doubt taking the absolute biscuit in the poor penalty department was Azzuri sub Simone Zaza.
Ironically enough, Conte only brought the striker on for his penalty taking ability. Like a man with a death wish, this is how he repaid is managers faith.
As if facing his fiery manager at the end wasn’t enough, the internet had an absolute field day with his sorry excuse for a penno.
