Premier League Champions Leicester City are understood to have tabled an €18m bid for KRC Genk’s midfield general Onyinye Ndidi in an effort to bolster their ranks as they head for relegation battle.
The Foxes’ underdog story of winning the Premier League last season has long been set aside as the club now face a gritty battle for top-flight survival. Indeed, they are currently 15th in the table with 20 points after 19 games, just six points clear of the drop zone.
Leicester have clearly missed N’golo Kante this season, who left the club to join London giants Chelsea during the pre-season. But now, the defending English league champions are eager to bring in a midfielder of similar caliber.
Enter Onyinye Ndidi, who has been in stellar form in the middle of the pitch for Genk this season, prompting the Belgian club to start him in all but one of their league games this season.
Such solid passing prowess and ability to control the midfield is thought to have earned a suitor in Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri.
True enough, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the charismatic tactician has already tabled a bid to the tune of €18m, which could prove more than enough to convince Genk to let go of their Nigerian midfielder.
Ndidi signed for Genk two years ago and has since played in no less than 62 appearances for the club. He has a contract with Genk that is set to expire in 2020.
