Whilst David Luiz will one day hang up his boots looking back on a glittering trophy laden career, you can bet his involvement in Brazil’s 7-1 defeat to Germany at the 2014 World Cup will still be a difficult footballing moment to stomach.
Indeed perhaps these words spoken by Arsenal star, and all round good egg, Mesut Ozil during that fateful night will make the defeat somewhat less wrangling.
Talking to Arsenal’s YouTube channel about the semi final matchup, the World Cup winner explains exactly what was said to a desolate David Luiz.
He goes on;
Of course, all the players on the pitch were a little bit surprised. But after 20 minutes, 4-0 you can’t realise what has happened.
If you lose a big game like that in your country and you see the fans crying, the players crying, you feel it with them. So I went to David Luiz and really apologised.
[I told Luiz:] ‘You have a nice country with nice people, and with what we’ve learned here, we’ve had a really good time.’
Here’s the video.
A ruddy lovely block in our eyes. To be fair it was hard for most once the score got past four for most people.
Apart from Thomas Miller of course…..
