Everton are reportedly contacted Manchester United to sign Morgan Schneiderlin after Jose Mourinho said the French midfielder is free to leave Old Trafford in January.
The France International was signed by Red Devils from Southampton in July 2015 for £25m. Being a regular starter last season, Schneiderlin was given only 3 substitute appearances in the Premier League after Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
When asked about the future of Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay, the Portuguese coach announced that every Manchester United player is free to leave the club, the Daily Mail reports.
Everton now lead the race to sign the Frenchmen in January with United ready to bag £24m for the player, talks between the clubs are already in process. Schneiderlin was a key player under Ronald Koeman’s Southampton tenure and the Dutchman now wants to see him in Goodison Park. The Toffees’ manager is also interested in his countryman Memphis Depay, who was also dropped out of Mourinho’s plans.
Inter Milan are one of the main competitors of Everton for the race for the Frenchmen, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Neradzurri’s new manager Stefano Pioli is looking to improve his side’s central midfield and the United 27-year-old midfielder is one of his top targets along with Olympique de Marseille’s Lassana Diarra and Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel.
