After a frantic end to the Championship season, Middlesbrough seem to be entering this Premier League campaign with all guns blazing if this bit of transfer news is anything to go by.
It’s reported that along with the inevitable signing of former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo, Boro are all but set to announce Borussia Dortmund star Neven Subotic as the clubs new centre half.
Signing up for three years (With totals wages adding up to around £8m with add-ons) with the Riversiders, the former Serbian international will be ending his eight year spell with the German club, a period culminating in three Bundesliga titles and a German Cup.
It was believed following their long history since their Mainz days, that the centre half would be joining up with Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side. However since its been reported that the newly promoted Premier League side are already at the Work Permit stage of the deal, Subotic will almost definitely be a Boro player in the next 24 hours.
Saying that- Boro expect their initial application to be rejected due to the players retirement from international football in 2013, however they are confident they will win on the point based first stage of the appeal process due to the defender being employed by a category one league side and will be one of the top earners at his new club.
Not a bad bit of business, we say.
What do we think?
