London giants Arsenal showed their ruthless on Sunday after scoring five goals past Everton at Goodison Park. The Gunners had conceded a goal beforehand but managed to turn things around to claim all three points.
Things started well for Everton after Wayne Rooney put them ahead in front of the Toffees fans. Soon, however, it would become an Arsenal masterclass with Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey, and Alexis Sanchez all making their mark in the scoresheet to seal a mighty 5-2 win. Everton’s Oumar Niasse also managed to score a consolation goal.
The loss marks Everton’s fifth this season and despite all their summer spending, it appears the Toffees couldn’t get a break. This sees them slip down the table towards the relegation zone in 18th place with eight points, just behind 17th-placed Stoke City by virtue of goal difference.
The first half saw Arsenal almost score from three minutes in with Aaron Ramsey missing the target just a yard wide. Six minutes later, it was Frenchman Alexandre Laczette’s turn to notch in an attempt, but highly-rated keeper Jonathan Pickford was there to make a fabulous save.
Despite the early Arsenal attack, it was actually Everton who would open the scoring. Stepping up in the most opportune time, former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney scores with a brilliant right-footed shot at the 12th minute, sending Goodison Park into raptures.
Thirty minutes later, the Gunners claw one back through Nacho Monreal. The Spanish full-back was there to slide home the rebound after Pickford managed to parry the ball on the first attempt made by Arsenal forward Granit Xhaka.
With both sides on full throttle to get that second goal, the second half started in the most blistering of fashions. Arsenal would, however, be the one to score after German international Mesut Ozil scored with an emphatic header with sent the ball past Pickford towards the back of the net. Fifteen minutes later, midfield enforcer Idrissa Gueye was sent off for a consecutive yellow card, further diminishing Everton’s chances of victory.

With Everton almost down for the count, Arsenal went in for the coup de grace. Lacazette pounces on an Ozil pass to slot home the ball and put the Gunners two goals to the good at the 74th minute. Ramsey would also join in on the action and score at the 90th minute to emphatically put the game to bed.
Everton’s Oumar Niasse had a go at the dying moments of the game and scored a consolation goal to make it 4-2, but Arsenal had long sealed the win. Not leaving anything to chance, enigmatic winger Alexis Sanchez would move to nullify Niasse’s goal at the death to make it 5-2 for Arsenal at full-time.
