Manchester United exit #ucl largely thanks to this superb Wolfsburg team goal (Video)

It’s been 10 years since Manchester United last crashed out of the Champions League group stage, like a true lover of club nostalgia, Louis Van Gaal couldn’t stop himself celebrating the anniversary in the grandest of matters by himself whimpering out of the competition at the hands of Bundelsiga side Wolfsburg after a sobering 3-2 defeat.

Despite the hordes of angry United fans berating the sides recent toothless performance against West Ham at the weekend, ironically it was a free flowing attacking display that became their undoing.

United started the night impressively when Anthony Martel converted Juan Mata’s pinpoint pass after just 10 minutes – cue a United meltdown complete with comedy defending soon after. First Naldo equalised just three minutes later, then Vieirinha finished this absolute beaut of a free flowing move on 30 minutes.

It suddenly looked far rosier 8 minutes from time when a Josuha Guilavogui own goal looked to have put the side into the knockout stage.

Of course it wasn’t to be as Naldo’s late header condemned the Red Devil’s to the dregs of the Europa League.

Think that was painful? Just look what happened in the BT Studio when Gary Linekar suggests that Man Utd are the new Liverpool…
