Manchester United are reported to be lining up an offer for Valencia playmaker Andre Gomes. The speculation comes about after the Red Devils failed in their attempts to negotiate a fee for top target Paul Pogba.
Pogba, 23, looks set to remain at Juventus for the summer with the club’s hierarchy reluctant to place a valuation over his services.
Italian publication Tuttosport says the Mancunian giants have shifted their focus to Gomes, who shares the same agent (Jorge Mendes) as Jose Mourinho. It is added that Mendes may have well sealed the player’s move to Old Trafford, and it could be the matter of a formal announcement.
Nevertheless, the story has a bit of exaggeration to it, with the ‘Special One’ having dismissed thoughts of recruiting a Portuguese footballer this summer.
“I won’t be signing any player from Portugal,” he was quoted as saying in a lecture at Lisbon University.
Gomes has appeared in 77 games for Los Che since his move from Benfica in 2014.
