Following a stellar Euro 2016 in which he pulled the strings on the way to Wales’ semi-final berth, Joe Allen looks to be moving away from Liverpool with Mark Hughes’ Stoke City his next destination.
It’s believed that the Merseysiders have accepted a £13m bid for the midfielder, with Swansea also potentially following suit with a similar offer in the hope their former player would fancy a reunion with the Welsh side.
Whilst Allen has only gained the confidence of pockets of Liverpool support since signing in 2012, the playmaker is something of a management favourite with Jurgen Klopp as well as his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
What with new signing Marko Grujic impressing in centre mid during Liverpool’s recent friendly win over Huddersfield, partnered with the fact that the player only made 8 starts last season, it’s been assumed since the end of the Euro’s that Allen days as a Red’s player are numbered.
Pressed on the potential loss of his midfield man when quizzes during a press conference, Klopp remained tight lipped on the deal.
“I feel good about Joe,” he said. “I like the guy and I really think he is a wonderful football player. I knew this before the European Championship, I saw it during the Euros and I know it now.
“It is nothing to discuss in public, I’ve not seen him since the middle of May in Basel.”
