Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, known for having an eye for young talent, is thought to have set his sights on Leicester City’s exciting young winger Demarai Gray, with the German tactician hoping to snap up the player come the summer.
The 20-year-old Gray has been playing some impressive football for relegation-threatened Leicester this season. Despite his age, he has proven he can go toe-to-toe with the big boys – his talent evident in his 29 appearances for the club so far, scoring three goals and notching five assists.
The wingers goal in the FA Cup against Derby County was a sight to behold and Klopp believes more is to come from the young lad from Birmingham. Indeed, according to the Daily Mail, Klopp is eager to bring the winger to Anfield come the summer and is confident a deal can be struck between both parties.
Gray currently has a market value believed to be somewhere around £5m – a sum Liverpool will find easy to meet, even if Leicester end up asking twice as much.
The attacker is currently an England U21 international and has impressed playing for the Three Lions. So far, he has earned five U21 caps and has scored two goals for his country.
With Sadio Mane Liverpool’s only solid option in the left wing, it could be worth it to gamble on Gray. The 20-year-old has shown his dribbling and finishing skills on many occasions, a level of composure quite difficult to find in a player as young as him.
Gray has also proven himself talented in making his move from counter-attacking plays, a skill that will definitely be useful for Liverpool, who are now accustomed to Klopp’s trademark brand of gegenpressing. If Liverpool can work on the players raw potential, then who knows what heights Gray can reach in red colours.
Gray, who moved to Leicester from Birmingham City back in January 2016, has a contract that keeps him grounded at the King Power Stadium until 2020.
