With the two sets of fans seemingly quite passive during the match, Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat to Frankfurt was marred by ugly scenes involving supporters.
With the teams already in their respective changing areas, it’s believed a large section of the 700 Leeds fans, the far larger of the total match attendance, fought with Frankfurt fans, some of which were wearing balaclavas.
The Yorkshire Post quoted Neil Slinn, a Leeds fan at the match, as saying: “A few of us went over to applaud the Frankfurt fans.
“I was going to shake their hands. Then their ultras jumped over the (advertising) boards and started attacking us.
“Some were wearing balaclavas and we were outnumbered.”
Disgraceful stuff. Especially disturbing are the reports that one Leeds fan had been stabbed during the scuffles.
