Just days after Mario Balotelli showed a brief spark of magic for his new club, Liverpool fans have yet another reason to sigh deeply after European Champions Barcelona were put to the sword by none other than Iago Aspas, another Liverpool striker alumni, as Celta Vigo romped to a 4-1 victory over the Calatalan’s.
A freak result perhaps, analysing the match in retrospect it could have been even worse for Luis Enrique’s side as their hosts threatened on various occasions more.
Nolito got the ball rolling with a terrific curling effort with 26 minutes played. Aspas then got in on the act with a wonderfully taken chip before adding his second 10 minutes into the second half.
Brazilian superstar Neymar pulled one back for the visitors before ex Stoke striker John Guidetti netted a fourth for the hosts.
Barca boss Luis Enrique, said on the match:
“What decided this game is how well Celta played. It was highly effective football from them. It was very good.
We tried to create problems, but we suffered a lot in one-on-one situations. When a team has played better than you, then there is nothing much that you can say.
I’d rather lose to a team that plays like Celta did today, without any tricks, purely winning through their football. I congratulate them and hope they can carry on playing like that.”
Celta Vigo now sit in second place in the La Liga table, one point above Barca who lie in fifth.
