Group stage predictions for Euro 2020/2021

We will present you a total guide for EURO 2020 including our predictions for each group.

Euro 2020 was postponed because of the pandemic but now it is confirmed and pre-competition nerves are clattering across the Europe with expectation and assumption blended with fervor and pressure as we at last can watch and enjoy football competition that is regarded by fans as the second best, only behind World Cup.

Each group has 4 nations competing and best 2 will get the opportunity of advancing to the knockout phases of the Euro 2020. Four third-placed squads will advance as well. Take a look at Euro 2021 odds to find out who is given the highest chances of winning it all, besides the usual favorites. Dispensable Soccer presents to you our predictions for how each group will wrap up, just as examining a portion of the key competitors and match-ups.

Group A

1. Italy 2. Turkey 3. Switzerland 4. Wales

Wales heads into the competition without Ryan Giggsin charge after the scandal Giggs so as his replacement, Robert Page will lead the squad. Gareth Bale is clearly the fundamental man, Joe Allen recovered from injury and Aaron Ramsey is back in the starting lineup, yet how far can this crew truly go this time? Most likely not far, but we can surely expect great effort, energy and “never give up” mentality from them.

Italy shockingly didn’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup and Roberto Mancini was assigned to get his country back on the right tracks. As we can see, that is what he has accomplished. The Italians head into the competition with restored motivation and high expectations. From Italy we of course expect classic tough defense but this time they added great, young attacking talents to their squad. Mostly because of their old glory days and packed squad compared to most of the world, they are one of the favorites again.

Turkey qualified to Euro2020 easily, so to no surprise they are considered as strong contenders for the entire Euro 2020. They had some really great results prior to this competition, including a 4-2 success over the Netherlands. Hakan Calhanoglu is the primary man, but look out for Lille star Zeki Celik who drove his squad to the Ligue 1 title in front of a super rich PSG team.

Group B

1. Belgium 2. Denmark 3. Russia 4. Finland

Belgium essentially hasn’t taken advantage of their brilliant in prime squad, despite moving to the highest position of the FIFA World Rankings in their history. Vincent Kompany has resigned and their main defenders, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Thomas Vermaelen are past their prime and are close to following his footsteps.

Eden Hazard is not the same player after numerous injuries and his starting position is not guaranteed. In any case, they do still have one of the strongest teams in this competition, including the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne, two stars on whom the team depends the most. Belgium surely plays very dangerous attacking football and they are clear favorites to move on from group B.

Denmark played their best football in years prior to Euro2020. They are capable of scoring at a high rate and their match-up against Belgium should be the highlight of this group, considering they beat them twice in the last four years. Russia will surely challenge both Denmark and Belgium for the first two positions. Russia has tough defense, they play as a team, with their whole hearth.

Group C

1. Netherlands 2. Ukraine 3. Austria 4. North Macedonia

Virgil van Dijk is still absent for the Netherlands, yet luckily for them, they have been drawn into apparently the weakest group and should finish on the top with relative ease. North Macedonia crushed Germany in March, however they are still considered as one of the weakest teams in the competition and their chances are minimal.

Austria had a nice streak a couple of years ago, but since then they were mostly average. Meanwhile their rival for the second place of group C will be Ukraine, that is at the moment in the best form in years. They topped the qualifiers finishing ahead of Portugal and with the leadership of their coach, legendary striker Andriy Shevchenko they can be the most pleasant surprise of the tournament.

Group D

1. England 2. Czech Republic 3. Croatia 4. Scotland

At first glance, England seems like a favorite ,but actually this group is exceptionally balanced if we take into account previous results between these teams.

Croatia has a very capable crew, with tons of experience on the biggest stage that overcame England in the 2018 World Cup semi-final. The biggest star and leader of this generation, Luka Modric, is probably playing his last big tournament for the national team and Croatia’s result will mostly depend on his playmaking.

Czech Republic could be surprisingly strong contenders in the Group D. With the help of their Premier League pair from West Ham Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek and standard players, Patrick Schick and Jakub Jankto they can make some noise in the group D.

Scotland is not essentially a very attractive team to watch, but their matchup against England at Wembley will be a thing to remember.

Group E

1. Spain 2. Poland 3. Sweden 4. Slovakia

Even though they are in rebuilding mode, Spain is an absolute favourite to go out of group E. Coach Luis Enrique made some huge decisions, leaving captain Sergio Ramos out of the squad and calling Aymerick Laporte who will likely start at central back position. Lack of world class strikers will be Spain’s biggest problem, so they will have to rely on contribution from their midfield.

Speaking of world class strikers, Poland has arguably the best one -Robert Lewandowski who led his squad to Euro2020. However they will have a tough time against Sweden for the second place. Slovakia is

given zero chances of advancing to the knockout stages.

Group F

1. France 2. Germany 3. Portugal 4. Hungary

And finally group F, rightfully called “The group of death” .

Hungary was very unlucky to land in the group like this and it would be a miracle if they even get a single point.

France depth on all positions is unheard of. Current World champions kept their winning squad but added Karim Benzema in the mix after years of absence. He and Kylian Mbappe, along with Pogba, Griezzman and others give France the edge over others so they represent the biggest favorites in this tournament.

Germany is always among favorites but we will have to see how the young, refreshed German team competes against the likes of France and Portugal.

Portugal is a defending champion and since then their team has become even stronger.

Cristiano Ronaldo is now accompanied by Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias. Coach Santos said they will go for the win no matter who is the opponent so we can expect some unbelievable matches in this group.

EURO2020 starts on the 11th of June and will finish on the 11th of July. We have a month of football ahead of us so buckle up, you don’t wanna miss this.
