What with the Dutch international always unlikely to stick it out playing Championship football, Liverpool have dipped into their pockets and signed Newcastle United midfielder/forward Georginio Wijnaldum for £25m.
The 25-year old passed his medical with the Merseysiders on Friday, following the former Feyenoord player signing a 5-year contract.
Whilst Wijnaldum played his part in a disappointing season for Newcastle following his £14.5m from Dutch side PSV, the player did show sparks of inspiration, playing in all 38 of the club’s Premier League games and scoring 11 goals – four of those being scored in a 6-2 dismantling of Norwich early in the season.
The Rotterdam born footballer joins fellow new signings, Loris Karius (£4.7m), Joel Matip (free transfer), Marko Grujic (£5.1m), Sadio Mane (£34m), Ragnar Klavan (£4.2m) and Alex Manninger (free transfer)in Klopp’s new setup.
