Euro 2016: Gareth Bale heads home against Cyprus to put Wales on brink of Euro qualification

On the same day the side found themselves ranked higher than England in the FIFA world rankings, Chris Coleman’s Wales battled to a 1-0 win in Cyprus to put themselves in touching distance of Euro 2016 qualification.

Ironically it was an away qualification result of English proportions, tight, nervy, but end in the satisfying (okay not entirely English). With the hosts having the better of the tie overall, Gareth Bale, so often the savior of his country this qualifying campaign, popped up 8 minutes from time to nod in a Jazz Richards center sending the Welsh into glorious celebrations.

It’s been quite the journey for coach Coleman. Firstly taking over a devastated post Gary Speed Welsh side three years prior, pressured with calls of the sacks following poor early results and now, quite wonderfully, is on the verge of qualification to a major competition – the countries first in over half a century.

Perhaps we’re getting a tad excited, the side must claim three more points in their remaining three fixtures..the next one coming up this Sunday against Israel!
