Former Rangers midfielder Arnold Peralta murdered in Honduras

Some abhorrent news from Honduras now. Reports have come through that former Rangers midfielder Arnold Peralta Sosa has been gunned down on Thursday afternoon (local time) in the parking lot of a mall in La Ceiba.

It’s understood that the unknown perpetrator was on the back of a motorbike, before Sosa could enter his vehicle he was shot eleven times.

Upon news of the incident, local police have been operating through the city in the hope of finding those responsible, so far to no avail. Whilst no motive has been uncovered, perhaps the fact that the country is plagued by gang violence and has one of the world’s highest homicide rates goes along way to explain the senseless crime.

Peralta appeared for Scottish club Rangers on 29 occasions before deciding to return to his Honduras with Club Deportivo Olimpi. He also represented Honduras at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and was captain of Honduras’ Under-20 side.

Our thoughts go out to his family at this sickening time.
