Liverpool have enjoyed a mixed start to the campaign, after the opening weekend’s victory against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium, Klopp’s team succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Burnley last Saturday. Jurgen Klopp arrived at Anfield mid-way through last season following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. The German took Liverpool to two cup finals but couldn’t get over the finishing line, however, there were enough signs for the fans to be positive about the future. Liverpool have done well this summer bringing in a host of quality players, though with every arrival there are also the departures. Crystal Palace this week confirmed the signing of Christian Benteke from Liverpool.
The former Aston Villa striker joined Liverpool last summer but endured a difficult campaign in which he scored just 10 goals in all competitions. Now that he has moved on, Klopp would be looking for players who can replace the Belgian in the squad. Here we look at three strikers who can replace Benteke and partner Sturridge in the future.
Loic Remy
Remy moved to Chelsea on the deadline day of 2014 summer transfer window, however, one can’t forget the fact that he had almost signed for Liverpool at one point only to fail in the medical. Remy was frustrated with how the situation was handled. Cut to present, the striker is on the lookout for a new club, in order to get more game time. Liverpool dont need a world-class striker, they need someone who will provide good cover, and Remy can be the perfect candidate for that.
Saido Berahino
Berahino was once reported to be a target of Liverpool, as Klopp was looking to replace the injury-prone striker Sturridge. Just the fact Klopp saw him as a fit replacement for Sturridge shows how highly he thinks about Berahino’s talent. Over the years he has been linked with several top clubs but West Brom always managed to keep him but this time, it looks like their finally ready to offload him. He won’t come cheap but he will be perfect to compliment Sturridge and give that Liverpool attack an extra zip.
Ayoze Perez
Perez moved to Newcastle in 2014/2015 very much under the radar, after a slow start, the former Tenerife forward slowly started getting into the groove. He is a very intelligent forward, who is very versatile. His movement between the lines is something that will definitely interest Klopp. Currently, he is in the championship playing for Newcastle, therefore it won’t be insane to have a crack at getting him.
