Premier League regulars Everton have shocked the footballing world by appointing world-renowned manager Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager, sounding a statement of intent across the Premier League that Everton are keen to reach greater heights in terms of their stature.
Fans are understandably split in the club’s decision to bring in the Italian tactician. Such a move may well be seen as a risk, as some fans consider Ancelotti to be too high-profile a signing which could disrupt the close-knit club dynamic at Goodison Park. Will the club be able to handle the intense scrutiny that comes along with a such a charismatic and well-known manager?
Of course, there are also fans who lauded the move, including punters at online-sportwette.net. After all, Carlo Ancelotti has managed the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid. The Italian certainly has the skills to help Everton teach their full potential. He’s only one of three managers in the history of football to win the Champions League three times. Not even the great Jose Mourinho or even Jurgen Klopp can boast of that accolade. Ancelotti can definitely bring results.
While the jury is still out on how Ancelotti will fare in the blue side of Merseyside, it is definitely a mistake to think that Everton have bitten more than they could chew by appointing the 60-year-old manager. Indeed, Everton have been a fixture in English top-flight since 1954. They have nine English top-flight titles and five FA Cup wins under their name. They have had numerous opportunities to play in both the Europa League and the Champions League. They have every bit of history to go for.such a high-calibre manager if they want to do so.
For far too long, Everton have been satisfied with a top eight finish. Sure, they captured the imagination of football fans for some time. Pundits speculated whether the Toffees could one day break into the top four. But so far, Everton have remained in their own little bubble, content in sealing a top half finish, perhaps a cup run. They enjoyed a few Europa League qualifications in recent seasons, and even enjoyed playing in the Champions League qualifying rounds, but that’s about it.
The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti is a clear message that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, who took control of the club in 2018, is eager to change — that Everton are no longer satisfied with just top half finishes or cup runs. It may sound far-fetched now, but Moshiri believes Everton need to challenge for trophies.
Moshiri has done well to reel in a world-class manager in Ancelotti. The Italian has managed the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, and Chelsea. He has won numerous titles, including league championships across four countries. There are not many managers out there who can near-guarantee a trophy win – Ancelotti is one of those managers.
And he now manages Everton.
Ancelotti’s reputation as a cool-as-you-like man manager and serial winner will also broaden Everton’s opportunities in the transfer market. More high-profile players will be willing to play at Goodison Park now that Carletto is the one in charge at the dugout. Imagine the possibilities: a well-established 20 goals a season striker, probably even a decorated winner, plying their trade in the blue side of Merseyside.
Ancelotti is a superb signing and Everton can hope the Italian can rejuvenate their club and finally bring them back to the top of the competition, just like how they fared in yesteryears.
