Ronald Koeman certainly isn’t willing to waste his time at Everton and is trying to land a deal for some of the top players in the Premier League and one such player who is on the radar for the Goodison club is Morgan Schneiderlin of Manchester United.
While we have seen Marouane Fellaini move the other way a few years ago, Schneiderlin could be one of the biggest signings Koeman gets to make and he would know a good deal about him based on his time at Southampton and what he brought to the club, before his move to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old did not have the greatest of seasons at United under Louis van Gaal and even though there is hope that he could do better this season under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, Everton could very well provide a great escape route for the defensive midfielder.
The Toffees should try everything out to bring the talented star to the club, even if he wasn’t at his best in the previous season. Schneiderlin, if played on a regular basis, is one of the best at his job and that includes tackling and keeping possession.
Manchester United often chopped and changed last season under Van Gaal and truth be told, only a few players actually had a good season for the Red Devils, Schneiderlin not being one of those stars.
The 26-year-old would want a fresh challenge and maybe moving to a rising team which has a lot of ambition would be a good move for him. While the French midfielder would certainly add a lot of steel to a rather aging midfield of Everton with Gareth Barry being trusted with most of the cleaning up, it is imperative for Everton to actually get the signing done rather than Schneiderlin doing his best to move out of Manchester United.
The Liverpool based club have to show a sign of intent thanks to the extra financial muscle they possess and that would mean signing top class talent, which Schneiderlin is. Not only would he be a great addition to the squad, he knows the Premier League well too and could very well fit into the team, basis the brand of football that the new manager would be dying to implement.
Schneiderlin might want to keep his cards close to his chest as his future at United is still in doubt but Jose Mourinho does play with a couple of defensive midfielders and Schneiderlin could be one of them but moving to Everton, at this time, isn’t the worst option for him and for the Toffees this signing could be the start of something rather beautiful.
