Zoltan Gera’s long range grass-gutter in the group-stage thriller between Hungary and Portugal has officially been voted as the Euro 2016 goal of the tournament.
Hungary, one of the surprise packages at this years tournament, had the veteran to thank for opening the scoring on the way to a 3-3 draw against the eventual champions – the 19th minute effort seemingly the required shock treatment that Portugal well and truly required.
With a choice of goals via Gera, Shaqiri, Cristiano Ronaldo, the former Fulham and West Brom players drive won with 32% of the vote on a poll conducted via the UEFA website, with over 150,000 votes cast since Eder’s dramatic extra-time finish brought the tournament to an end on Sunday in emphatic fashion.
