Liverpool have announced the signing of Senegalese winger Sadio Mane from Southampton. The 24-year-old links up with the Reds on a five-year contract after they agreed on a £30m sum for his transfer.
Mane has earned his move to Merseyside following two years at the South Coast where he amassed 25 goals in all competitions.
“Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe,” he told Liverpool‘s official website.
“It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history. Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season.”
The attacker had attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United in recent weeks, but it was the Reds who managed to land his services with coach Jurgen Klopp playing a key role in the deal.
Mane is the fifth player to have made the switch to Liverpool from the Saints over the past couple of seasons.
Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert (now of West Bromwich Albion) made their way to Anfield in 2014, whilst Nathaniel Clyne did the same in 2015.
Liverpool have handed Mane the number 19 shirt for the upcoming campaign.
