No strangers to enthralling moments of cup football of late, AFC Wimbledon overturned a three nil deficit to claim an enthralling victory over non-league Curzon Ashton.
Whilst the home side will feel winded at letting the biggest result in their history slip through their grasp, the Ashton-under-Lyne side still played their part in a frantic exhibition of FA Cup football.
Indeed the ‘the Nash’ held their league seniors by three goals right up to the 80th minute, the goals coming via a hat-trick from former Liverpool youth player Adam Morgan.
Alas a ten minute onslaught put the National League North outfit to the sword, Tom Elliott, Dominic Poleon and Tyrone Barnett adding three within three minutes, before Elliot added his second in the dying seconds to break Curzon Ashton hearts.
Speaking on his side’s performance post match, Ashton manager John Flanagan commented: “I’m gutted, I’m feeling for the lads. We gave a good account of ourselves and at the start of the game that was all we were really trying to do. But it’s very cruel and harsh not to get a draw from that game.”
Darn tooting.
Despite the result, congratulations to Curzon Ashton for an outstanding performance.
