Brazilian superfan Clovis Acosta Fernandes passes away at 60

Some rather sad news now.

It’s come to light that ever-present Brazilian superfan Clovis Acosta Fernandes, made famous the world over for his trophy hugging despair at last years World Cup, has sadly passed away at the age of 60.

After a 9 year battle with cancer, the Brazil cult legend passed away in Porto Alegre yesterday.

Whilst the image of sorrow was seared into public consciousness, Fernandes was just as known in his home country for his face making an appearance on camera at every World Cup since 1990, giving his support to his beloved side whatever and wherever the competition in over 150 games, traveling to more than 60 countries.

Tragic news, to put a slightly happier spin on it, he experienced a some truly marvellous football. Exactly what he would have wanted.

What a legend.
