In the same way that Paul Pogba was the subject of the footballing media’s never ending Manchester United transfer narrative last Summer, fellow Frenchman Antoine Griezmann has been drawn up as a target for the Red Devils following yet another stellar season for Atletico Madrid.
Whilst all the hype has no doubt got the red side of Manchester excited about another world class signing joining the ranks, it seems the little attacking genius is growing tired of all the transfer tattle.
Speaking at a promotional event for shampoo Head & Shoulders in Spain, Griezmann batted away questions about his future with the following (as published on as.com);
“It’s always the same question and I now don’t know what to say, I find myself repeating myself and I certainly see myself here. I feel it’s an answer that I’ve given so many times now but that very question is quite tiring.”
Across all competitions this season the 26 year old has racked up an impressive 22 goals, contributing 9 assists in the process.
Whilst the player has spearheaded a formidable Atletico side over the years, the absence of a major trophy in that time could be a deciding factor in the players decision to seek his football elsewhere.
Indeed manager Diego Simeone may be tempted to follow suite with various mega clubs keen to have him aboard.
Admittedly Griezmann’s frustration with talking about his future may not bode well for United at this stage, rumours may not quite yet be ready to disperse after a journo followed up with another question – why exactly does the French international choose to wear number 7.
His answer?
“My idol was David Beckham and he wore the No. 7 shirt at United,”
Surely it’s a done deal, right United fans?
