Carlo Ancelotti on Allianz debut: “I was excited as if it had been my first day at school’

What with his stupendously raised eyebrow and gentle philosophical manner, Carlo Ancelotti is somewhat of a favourite around these parts.

Despite taking charge of Europe’s biggest sides, surrounded by high expectations and sometimes strangulating conditions, it’s somehow comforting to know that some one like Ancelotti’s still feels butterfly’s when put into new surroundings. Whilst the Italian needn’t justify his credentials given his standing in the game, following in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola at new club Bayern Munich must be quite daunting for the multi European Cup winner.

Seeing his side claim a 1-0 win over Manchester City in his first match at the Allianz Arena, defeating the recently departed Spaniard in his first outing as boss of the Premier League side. Ancelotti spoke of the occasion.
“I was excited as if it had been my first day at school. I know the stadium and the fans. It was a fantastic atmosphere, and I believe we can achieve a lot together,” Ancelotti said.
“It was quite a good start today in terms of our play.”

“Of course it’s always difficult against a strong team like Manchester City. Considering that it’s the early stage of pre-season we played quite well,” he said.
“We showed that we’re in good condition, but we still have time to improve.”

Following their pre-season, Bayern open their Bundesliga account by hosting Werder Bremen on the 27th of August.
