Glantraeth FC
Non-league Welsh side Glantraeth FC have suddenly found themselves rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous after nabbing themselves a prized new honorary club president.
Based in the town of Malltraeth on Anglesey, Glantraeth attract an average of 40 spectators every weekend. Having spent much of her time on her grandparents’ farm nearby as a child, the club approached the English born Aussie starlet Naomi Watts to take the reigns, replacing Sir George Meyrick who stepped down last August.
Club secretary Stan Strickland updated the BBC on proceedings:
She spent three years of her childhood here and attended school in Llangefni before becoming a major film star.
I just thought ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’.
She has now got her publicist involved, so we could end up in the New York Times.
Whilst the King Kong actress’ exact role is yet to be determined, it can still be considered a great coup for the Welsh third tier side.
Exciting for all involved.
