After 18 straight league defeats, in which a ginormous 179 goals have been conceded, non-league side ‘non-league Longford AFC’ have unlisted the services of former England and Nottingham forrest left back Stuart Pearce to tighten up their gaping defense.
A publicity stunt courestesy of their shirt sponsors, the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two’s gaffa Nick Dawe has warned that despite his legendary status, not forgetting his rocket of a left foot, ‘Psycho’ should expect no special treatment ahead of the his up and coming debut.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dawe commented:
A year ago we were playing in front of one man and his dog and now we are set to get hundreds for Stuart’s debut.
Stuart knows that there will be no special treatment, he will still need to pay his £5 a game subs.
Pearce followed up by asking us all to ignore the blatant financial reasons for his decision to represent the sponsor…we mean side.
I believe grassroots football is essential to the lifeblood of the game so I jumped at the chance.
I started out in non-league football playing for Wealdstone before joining Coventry City so I’m looking forward to working with manager Nick Dawe, and helping a group of talented young footballers achieve their dreams and, hopefully […] seeing how far they can go up the league.
Here’s the man in his new club colours exhibiting that classic Pearce smile….
