Spurs have been the unlucky bridesmaids for almost all of the history of the Premier League. Very often coming so close, but very rarely coming away with a trophy. In the Premier League era Spurs have won just the one trophy, a 2007/08 League Cup win. This means that it has been over ten years since Spurs last won silverware. Could this be the season that this comes to an end? Whilst the club have been mocked for their ‘Spursiness’ in recent years, savvy punters scanning online sports betting sites 2019 will be taking a kean eye over them as we get into the business end of the season.
With that in mind, here’s 5 reasons this could be their year.
They are within touching distance in the league
In the league Liverpool and Manchester City are the two teams who are performing the best at the moment. Spurs are still within touching distance though. They are not out of the title race yet and all it takes is a good run of games for Spurs and a few dropped points for the other two and the league will open right up again.
They have been given a favourable FA Cup draw
While the FA Cup is still in its early stages and nothing can be assumed yet, they have been given a nice draw on paper. Tranmere away could be the easiest draw of all of the top four sides. This means that not only should they have an easier route through to the next round than most, but they can also rest some players which will help their trophy hunt on other fronts.
The Champions League draw was a good one
I know what you’re thinking, Borussia Dortmund are running away with the Bundesliga how is this a good draw? It’s a good draw for precisely that reason. Dortmund are not coming up against resolute opposition every week. They almost have to just turn up and win at the moment. Spurs are in a much tougher battle week in week out. This means that when the two teams meet Dortmund could have a lax attitude towards playing Spurs. This could very easily play into Spurs hands and give them a good chance of making it through to the next round. If Spurs manage to beat Dortmund they will go into the next round with a renewed sense of confidence. They have the quality to beat anyone on their day, add this to sky high confidence and they could be taking back the first ever Champions League in their history.
They are already in the semis for the Carabao Cup
After beating their arch rivals in the quarter finals Spurs will be going into this one full of confidence. They are above Chelsea in the league and arguably performing to a much higher standard so far. They could have had a better draw if they had managed to get Burton in the semi final, but Chelsea is still a better draw than Man City. Spurs have a very good chance of making it to the final this year and once they are there anything can happen on the day. This was the last trophy that Spurs won and they have a very good chance of making it happen again.
