He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but Jose Mourinho has proven time and time again that despite the arrival of younger managers with a different set of philosophy, he is still one of the best gaffers around. Although his task at Manchester United is of gigantic proportions, it is clear that the former Real Madrid man is the one who is destined to guide the Red Devils to their glory days.
1) Stubbornness
Although this particular trait can really affect you in life, the same cannot be said of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician is one of those managers who are unlikely to change the recipe if the taste isn’t quite there. At the start of his spell at Old Trafford, many fans were dismayed at the tactics used by their new manager. Come December though, the team had put on a run of seven consecutive wins without changing much. Clearly, Mourinho stood by his beliefs and with a little persistence, everything has started working out for him and the players.
2) Doesn’t care about reputations
In the world of Mourinho, there is no player bigger than the man who is managing him. During his time with Chelsea, Mou tried signing Wayne Rooney when the Englishman was at the peak of his powers. However, the United boss has little use of his captain now with the striker struggling for form and consistency. While the likes of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal persisted with the number 10, Mourinho eventually confined him to the bench. His decision has so far been justified thanks to the team’s recent run of results.
3) Been there done that
Mourinho has seen all the highs and lows a manager can experience in his career. From winning the league title in four different countries to winning the champions league two times to seeing his team drop precariously close to the relegation zone, the United manager has enough experience to know exactly what needs to be done when the goings get tough. Such experiences mean a lot when it comes to being the manager of such a huge club.
4) Knows his title assaults
During his time in Spain while he was the manager of Real Madrid, Mourinho did everything in the book and not in the book to make life difficult for Barcelona. His tactics (debatable as some of them were), saw the Galacticos win their first domestic league title in many years. Indeed, Mourinho is a pro when it comes to seeing his team through in the business end of the season – something United are in dire need of.
5) Transfer attraction
While David Moyes and van Gaal struggled to make big name signings, the arrival of Mourinho has seen the club sign some truly elite athletes in the shape of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Special One is the type of manager every player wants to play for and this serves United well who need one or two more major signings to once again become the giants they once were.
