After his last high profile public moan, it seems Yaya Toure is still taking himself far to seriously judging from the Ivorian’s comments in the wake of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang African Footballer of the year award.
With the Borussia Dortmund halting the Man City midfielder’s 4 wins in a row by leaving him second in this years competiton, he reportedly called the snub “very disappointing” and “pathetic” before moaning that it “brings shame” on the entire continent of Africa.
According to both AFP and L’Equipe (via the Guardian), Toure appeared on French radio station RFI to air his grievances after the ceremony:
I’m very, very disappointed. It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important.
I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent.
But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic.
As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down.
We can only presume Yaya has taken particular exception to the fact that he wasn’t presented with the coveted award despite leading his country to their first African Nations win in 22 year.
Since ‘Birthday-gate’, Toure really has been on a run of boringly insipid public moans. Undeniably a true Premier League legend, we cant help but feel the Ivorian would be an absolute pain in the arse to play alongside.
