Match Report: Marvellous Manchester City Thrash Woeful Watford

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could not have been any happier with what he saw with his side when the Citizens faced Watford on Saturday. The visitors smashed through the opposition like a freight train, winning the game 6-0 at full time.

Veteran striker Sergio Aguero was the star of the show at Vicarage Road, when he clocked in an impressive hat-trick to help Manchester City clinch an emphatic win. Gabriel Jesus, Nicolas Otamendi, and Raheem Sterling also got themselves in the scoresheet.

This marks Manchester City’s third successive Premier League win, made more commendable after the Blues have beaten Liverpool 5-0 just the week before. They’ve also managed to pip Dutch side Feyenoord 4-0 in the Champions League during their midweek fixture.

The victory puts City in first place after five games with thirteen points, with fierce rivals Manchester United still to play on Sunday.

Manchester City’s business started in the 27th minute. Kevin De Bruyne made a brilliant cross from a set-piece, sending the ball towards the box with Aguero heading in for the opening goal. The away side would score again five minutes later, with the Argentinian slotting the ball home from close range.

City wonderkid Gabriel Jesus got in on the action on the 37th minute mark. This time, it was Aguero who turned provider when his incisive through ball reached Jesus inside the box, who accurately shot the ball towards the back of the net.

Onwards to the second half, City showed no signs of stopping and just after the hour mark, industrious defender Otamendi would fly highest in the air to head the ball home after David Silva floated the ball in beautifully from the corner. Aguero would then complete his hat-trick nine minutes from time, when he shot home brilliantly from an angle.

Watford, in their desperation, added insult to their injury when they fouled Raheem Sterling inside the penalty box. Sterling himself would score from the spot at the 89th minute.

The emphatic win saw City finally kick into gear and many are now speculating Guardiola’s side may be the one to beat in the race for the Premier League title this season round. Whether they can pull it off, of course, remains to be seen.
