Flashback: Three players sent off as Everton win at Anfield in 1999 – an EPL classic

Everton's Kevin Campbell celebrates with team mates Nick Barmby and Francis Jeffers after scoring the only goal of the game. Liverpool's Dietmar Hamann (r) cuts a dejected figure.

With the two seperated by just 6 points in the Premier League this season, this weekend’s thigh rubbing encounter of the two Merseyside giants is set up to be a doozy.

Whilst Klopp’s side have the rampant and speedy comination of their ferocious front three, Everton boast one of the most dangerous strikers of his generation – Romelu Lukaku, to rattle a rather easily shaken defensive line.

It’s probably worth mentioning at this stage however that the Toffees haven’t managed to win at Anfield in an astonishing 18 years. And what a match that was.

Whilst many will hardly rate it anywhere near the 4-3 spellbinder between Liverpool and Newcastle United three years prior, Everton’s 1-0 win at the expense of their fierce rivals in 1999 really was an underrated league classic

Kevin Campbell started things off nicely with an early opener in the encounter, all before the game descended into absolute madness as three players were sent for an early bath.

Have a watch.
