‘Immeasurable bulls**t’ – manager wades into Van Basten over abolishment of the offside rule

Judging from the man’s ability to wear a turtle neck and suit jacket, Rennes coach Christian Gourcuff evidently isn’t a man who cares what anyone thinks.

Clearly, that disregard extends to games absolute legends.

Marco Van Basten, one on the greatest strikers to even lead a line, currently holds the position as FIFA’s chief official for technical development. Along with various other changes to the game he and his team have been mulling over at a recent conference, it has been revealed that the former Ajax and Milan player has been tossing and turning over the offside rule, ie, thinking about abolishing it entirely.

Catching wind of this proposal ahead of his sides Ligue 1 match with Guingamp, Gourcuff put his cards on the table in relation to the possible proposal.

He muttered:
“This is the worst c**p I have read in a long time and yet I did not read it wrong. It’s immeasurable bulls**t,” he told a news conference.

“We would return to the time of village versus village, and at the time it ended with players being killed.

“The offside is a manifestation of collective intelligence. There would be no more collective spirit if the offside rule was removed.

“The offside rule is fundamental – if you do not understand that, you do not understand football.”

Clearly Gourcuff is no shrinking violet, however it’s easy to understand the man frustrations in light of such FIFA stenched nonsence.

All that from the man that gave us this.

Shame.
