(Watch) Wayne Rooney becomes Manchester United’s joint all time top scorer during FA Cup win

Manchester United claimed a 4th round place in this seasons FA Cup at a canter, courtesy of a 4-0 mauling of Championship side Reading.

The visitors rarely threatened their illustrious hosts, indeed despite flying high in the Championship, Jaap Staam was helpless to effect proceedings on his Old Trafford return.

Much of the match headlines however would be stolen by another Manchester United legend. Wayne Rooney registered his 249th United goal for the club, seeing off the 44-year-old record of Sir Bobby Charlton, with the 79-year old witnessing the feat from the stands himself.

The England captains effort coming just 7 minutes into the fixture.

The Red Devils would later double their their lead on 15 minutes, with the sensational Anthony Martial firing home.

Reading would proceed to block the waves of United domination right up till the 75th minute when Marcus Rashford netted the first of his two goals of the game. The teen sensation’s second and United fourth came via an almighty howler from Reading ‘keeper Ali Al Habsi.

After a rocky spell in charge of the club, the result means that Jose Mourinho has led his side to an impressive eight game winning run.
