Mourinho closes is on 50m Spurs maestro as Matic set to stay with Blues

They’ve seemingly already secured the services of one of Europe’s greatest forward talents, now it seems that Manchester United have turned their attention to midfield recruitment with Spurs’ Eric Dier in the cross-hairs.

Jose Mourinho only last week looked to have successfully honed in on former collegue Nemanja Matic to bolster an already talented if a little flimsy centre of the park. However with much tension growing between Chelsea and the acquisition of Lukaku, its quite understandably that the Londoners would rather United take a hike a plying such an important squad member from their clutches.

Not that Dier was ever considered a second choice. The Portuguese manager has been a long term admirer of the England international, with a previous multi-million pound bid hastily turned down by the title-chasers.

Now United have come in with a far larger £50m offer – an amount that will no doubt test Tottenham’s resolve even with the side in fine Premier League shape.

Dier has excelled for Pochettino’s young, talented side, proving to be a steely member of a fine defensive unit. However, after losing his defensive midfield position to the formidable Victor Wanyama, a promise of a similar role in United’s lineup, as well as a no doubt heftier paycheck, may indeed turn the former Sporting trainee’s head despite being tied to the club until 2021.
