Whilst many of Europe’s uber-clubs have held back the release of their new kits, a new Liverpool jersey for the 2017/18 campaign has been wheeled out and it is a kit that will certainly please many fans. With a few unique touches to celebrate the clubs 125th anniversary, this kit is sure to be popular amongst fans and I expect many people to buy the kit before the new season starts.

To commemorate their 125th year in existence, Liverpool have put plenty of extra thought and detail into their home kit for the upcoming season. The club crest on the chest of the shirt features a unique design which incorporates the dates 1892 – 2017 and has ‘125 years’ stitched underneath the badge in gold lettering.

Overall, the kit has a very retro feel to it, something that is becoming more and more popular with new football kits. For Liverpool, this look makes the kit look like the ones they wore in the 1970s when they were very successful. I’m sure fans will be hoping that some of the success rubs off on this new kit.

The Look

To complement the retro look of the kit, Liverpool have also opted to change the colour of their home kit slightly. The kit for the 2017/18 season will be a darker shade of red then they have had in recent years and again this will be a welcome change for fans. This colour matches the retro look very well and is certainly something that enhances the kit and gives it a better feel.

For the final touches, Liverpool have opted to put a white trim around the collar and sleeves of the shirt, again something that we have seen them use before in the 1970s. The sponsor on the front of the shirt is Standard Charter and with their logo also in white, the shirt has a very clean, crisp look to it, with just the gold badge being a different colour other than red and white.

The back of the shirt is plain, except for one small, subtle but very brilliant touch. In gold, at the top of the shirt on the neck area the numbers ‘96’ are stitched for the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster, something that all Liverpool players and fans will be proud to wear on their shirts I am sure.

New Balance have once again created the kit and I am sure Liverpool will be thrilled with the final design. The New Balance logo is on the front of the shirt, on the chest opposite the club badge and this is in white to help it blend in nicely with the rest of the shirt. Some manufacturers like to make their logo stand out, but New Balance have fitted their logo in perfectly, without taking over the shirt and featuring heavily in the design.

Liverpool Anniversary

The Liverpool home kit for the 2017/18 season is one that marks a very special anniversary for the club so because of that it will no doubt be very popular. The club have created a very nice shirt to commemorate their 125th year and the retro feel pays homage to the kits they have played in before. The darker shade of red changes things a bit and keeps the kit fresh for those that like to buy a new kit every season.

All in all, Liverpool have done a great job creating their new home kit and the kit will look very good when Liverpool begin to play in it next season. I am sure it will be a hit with fans and sales look set to be very high thanks to the anniversary year, and the great retro design.
