Burnley sign Belgium international Steven Defour for £7.5million

What with it being a rather worryingly low key transfer window for Sean Dyche’s side, Burnley fans will be delighted with the news that Anderlecht Steven Defour has signed in a club record deal.

Signing on the dotted line for three years, with the Clarets parting with £7.5million of their hard earned Premier League cash, the 44-capped Belgium international joins fellow new signings, Charlton pair Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope.

Once watched with heavy interest by such European giants as Manchester United and Real Madrid, the ball playing midfielder can be considered quite the coup being just 28-years of age.

Having kickstarted his career in the Belgium’s top division with Gent, Defour went on to play in the Champions League for FC Porto. The player would later raise eyebrows with former club Standard Liege by joining fierce rivals Anderlecht at the start of the 2014/15 season, this being the reaction to their discontent.

Lets hope the newly promoted side see the best of their star acquisition. With so many sides strengthening their squads, we feel they might just need it.
