The Premier League title race looks to be over as Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the league ahead of city rivals Manchester United. The race to become the Premier League’s top scorer is still very much alive with the contest a three way fight between Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Liverpool’s Mo Salah and league leaders Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
While Manchester City have the shortest odds for Premier League winner, it is Tottenham’s number 10 Kane who has the shortest odds of finishing as the league’s top scorer, with the England striker’s current odds at 4/7. City’s number 10 Aguero and Liverpool’s number 11 Salah are the joint second favourites with the current odds standing at 7/2.
Interestingly, the most common and most prolific number to wear amongst the Premier League clubs’ top scorers is the number 10 shirt, as five of the top scorers have managed 71 goals between them. The second most common and prolific shirt number is the number 9, with four clubs’ top scorers scoring 38 goals between them while wearing the number 9.
Harry Kane, Mo Salah and Sergio Aguero are currently the top three scorers in the league and while Kane and Aguero are their clubs’ number 10, Salah, who turns out for Liverpool is their number 11, a shirt number that is not usually prolific. All three should be at this year’s World Cup and have the opportunity to take their goal scoring form to the international stage.
