Match Report: Manchester City in Cruise Control as they Brush Aside Burnley

Oil-rich Manchester City proved too formidable opponents for minnows Burnley, as the Citizens smashed the visitors 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Three different Manchester City players made it to the scoresheet, with Sergio Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi, and Leroy Sane all scoring a goal each.

The win further cements City’s grip on first place, with the club now incurring a total 25 points from nine games. As things stand, City are now five points clear from nearest rivals Manchester United, after the Red Devils fell to a shock defeat against Minnows Huddersfield.

As expected, Manchester City quickly got a hold of proceedings in the first half, seeing most of the ball and not letting opponents Burnley get any whiff of it. New signing Bernardo Silva got the first real chance of the game, having a go at the ball at close range, only for the attempt to be saved by Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

Controversy would soon come in the form of a penalty decision. Silva won the decision for the home side after he went down while coming in contact with Pope’s knee. This time, it was veteran striker Sergio Aguero who steps up to the plate and convincingly converts the penalty.

The second half started similarly to the first, tentatively but with Manchester City dominating possession. Their advantage would soon be turned to another goal at the 73rd minute. Leroy Sane’s accurate delivery from the corner is met with a header from Nicolas Otamendi, which sends the ball towards the back of the net for City’s second goal.

Then as the icing on the cake, Sane would step up once again two minutes later, scoring a brilliant goal from inside the box after a great piece of play.

The match then ends 3-0 with Manchester City making it nine consecutive matches unbeaten this season.
