OFFICIAL: Paris Saint-Germain Smash Record Books with Signing of Neymar

Ligue 1 heavyweight Paris Saint-Germain broke the bank and signed sensational striker and Brazilian international Neymar from Barcelona on Wednesday evening, the French side have announced through their official website.

While neither side have categorically confirmed the price paid for the player, it is understood PSG have splashed a jaw-dropping £200-milliion pounds in order to trigger Neymar’s release clause. Apart from that gargantuan outlay, the Parc des Princes outfit have also given Neymar a five-year deal worth £400-million, as the former Barcelona star is set to be given wages of £782,000 a week.

“It is with immense joy and pride that we welcome Neymar Jr to Paris Saint-Germain,” PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said in the club’s official website.

“Neymar Jr is today one of the very best players in world football. His winning mentality, strength of character and sense of leadership have made him into a great player. He will bring a very positive energy to this club,” the club supremo further added.

The Neymar transfer was not supposed to push through after the Spanish La Liga threatened to block the transfer, with Primera Division chief Javier Tebas insisting the deal does not follow Financial Fair Play regulations.

And yet the transfer still managed to push through, and the player couldn’t help but share his delight, who said in a statement, “I am extremely happy to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Since I arrived in Europe, the club has always been one of the most competitive and most ambitious. And the biggest challenge, what most motivated me to join my new teammates is to help the club to conquer the titles that their fans want,” Neymar added.

Neymar’s transfer is now the world-record transfer to date, immensely eclipsing Paul Pogba’s £90-million move from Juventus to Manchester United last season. Only time can tell if such a huge gamble will prove to be right.
