Chelsea determined to wrap up £35m deal for Arsenal winger before close of window

Whilst the winger has shown undeniable flashes of genius since bursting onto the scene as a teen, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career hasn’t quite advanced to the dizzy height many had suspected.

Perhaps a move to a fierce rival would be just the tonic for the former Southampton trainee, no?

It just so happens that Chelsea, ever the admirer of the player’s talents, are set to turn up the gears on signing the player before the transfer window slams shut this time next week, indeed a £35 million bid is in the offing, as well as an eye-wateringly large £180,000 a week offered the way of the attacker – effectively doubling his wages.

Much of the Summers tittle tattle has been focused on key man Alexis Sanchez, with PSG hovering intently. However, after reports that Oxlade-Chamberlain has reportedly told Arsene Wenger he intends to reject a new deal, the Telegraph believes that the Blue’s are set to offer the player a way out. With fellow teammates Sanchez and Ozil potentially able to move for free at the end of the season, the Gunner’s will need to play their cards carefully when it comes to keeping their staff happy.

Not yet ready to entertain a squad minus his young winger, Wenger commented recently – “I want him to stay and be one of the big players of the future of this club,” he said. “He is one of the players this team has to be built around. I want him to commit to the club and to be one of the carriers of the values of our team.

“I think we invested a lot of time, confidence and money on players like Alex, who we bought at a young age. For me, they have a responsibility for the future of this club because Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be one of the big English players in the coming years. I personally am highly determined to keep him here.”
