Breaking: Arsenal pay big money for French hotshot

Its been the Summers worst kept secret, however Arsene Wenger is set to finally fill a massive void in his multi million pound squad by signing French hitman Alexandre Lacazette for a record €60m (£52.7m – with the player netting an eye watering paypacket of £200,000 per week.

After managing at least 20 goals per season for Lyon over the last fours years, Wenger seems to have plumped for the fourth-highest goalscorer in Lyon’s history (100 goals in 203 games) ahead of fellow Frenchman, and teen sensation, Kylian Mbappe, no doubt citing the dangerous strikers, proven record, fleet feet and eye for goal as reason enough to delve into the clubs sizeable pockets ahead of the 18-year old.

Whilst Lacazette has been earning raving at club level over the past few seasons, interestingly enough, the forward has more often than not been overlooked at international level in favour of Arsenal’s current main striker Olivier Giroud.

Given his 26 years, Just 11 caps for Les Bleu shows a relative lack of belief in the eyes of current boss Didier Deschamps.

Whilst the pair are both considered out-and-out strikers, the former Lyon man’s ability to speed away from the last man will make him a better foil for the club’s previous record signing Mezut Ozil.

The fact that he has also held the highest chance conversion rate in Europe’s top five leagues last season (38.9 per cent), will do doubt increase the hopes of an already pretty dire supporter confidence, especially following the news that main man Alexis Sanchez is but set to sign for rivals Manchester City.

Lacazette to Arsenal, what about Giroud?

With both Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott still keen to show there talents in the centre forward role, the future looks bleak for Olivier Giroud.

Whilst the former Montpellier forward has provided a consistent number of goals during his 5 year stay, Giroud has never be considered the world class talisman many Gunners fans have craved.

It’s rumoured Everton are all to keen to offer the player and escape route alongside an impressive array of new talent.
