Mourinho v Conte and more – Three games you don’t want to miss this this weekend

April 14, 2017

With roughly five games left in the season, teams are becoming more desperate to where they want to be. The race for the title, for example, may look done and dusted for some, but as any football fan knows, anything can happen – especially in the Premier League. Meanwhile, as much as six teams are still in it with a chance to finish in the top four, and each side will surely give their all in the remaining games.

That said, here are the three matches on matchweek 33 you don’t want to miss:

Tottenham Hotspur v Bournemouth

(15th April 2017, Saturday, 12:30PM GMT +1 KO)
Matchweek 33’s opening game is a sumptuous lunchtime fixture featuring London giants Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare to welcome minnows Bournemouth at White Hart Lane. This game is expected to be a spectacle as both sides are definitely coming into this game with a lot still to play for.

Visitors Bournemouth come into this game in 15th place with 35 points, just seven points clear of the drop zone. With their current form not as smooth sailing as they would like, they could ill afford to be complacent. After their loss to Chelsea last week, Cherries boss Eddie Howe will be keen for his side to return to winning ways and clinch the magical 40-point mark – a number of points believed to be needed to secure safety – so his side can finally rest easy.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have arguably more to play for in this fixture. As things stand, they are in second place, seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea. While all may seem finished in terms of the title race, anything is still possible and Spurs must keep the pressure on if they want to have any real chance of securing the title this season.

Manchester United v Chelsea

(16th April 2017, Sunday, 04:30PM GMT +1 KO)
The Premier League have served up a massive fixture on Sunday, pitting two giants together in a monumental clash that has a ton of ramifications for both sides as Manchester United face off against fierce rivals Chelsea at Old Trafford.

The home side come into this game fresh from their 3-0 demolition of hapless, bottom-placed side Sunderland last week. But they should be under no illusion they will have the same luck this time round against the in-form league leaders Chelsea. It is important to note that the Reds of Manchester have not won against the Blues of London in their last seven matches, and that trend will prove difficult to overturn. Nevertheless, a win is necessary for the Red Devils if they are to keep their top-four hopes alive.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are coasting towards the Premier League title as things stand but they have no room for complacency in this game. While they are seven points clear at the top of the table, second-placed Tottenham Hotspur are hot on their tails so this game is a must win for Antonio Conte’s men.

Middlesbrough v Arsenal

(17th April 2017, Monday, 08:00PM GMT +1 KO)
In the final game of the matchweek, relegation-strugglers Middlesbrough are set to welcome North London heavyweights Arsenal at the Riverside Stadium. With both sides in dire need to secure maximum points in this game, the match should prove to be one to watch.

Middlesbrough come into this game in 19th place, a massive six points adrift of safety with just five games left to play. While anything is still possible in the coming weeks, time is definitely running out and three points in this game is a must for Boro.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are currently bearing the brunt of frustration from their fans. Abysmal performances in recent weeks meant they have stumbled in the race for the top four and currently in sixth place, seven points away from the Champions League spots. With the Gunners having experienced defeat last week to underdogs Crystal Palace, their victory against another lower-level team isn’t as clear-cut as it looks on paper and Arsenal will have to be at the top of their game if they are to clinch victory in this fixture.
